About Wangaratta Motors
Wangaratta Motors P/L was established in 1924 by two friends with a passion for motor vehicles. At that time they ran a mechanical repair business and had the Chrysler cars franchise which they ran until 1933. It was in 1933 that they were appointed the Ford agent which they held until 1964. 1964 was a big year for the founding partners. After relinquishing the Ford franchise, they also retired from the day to day operation of the company and handed the reins over to Bill Gormly.
Bill had started his employment with Wangaratta Motors in 1950 with a mechanical apprenticeship and then moved on to Service Manager and then General Manager. It was during 1965 that Bill successfully approached Australian Motor Industries & Theiss Toyota and was appointed as the first Toyota dealer for Wangaratta & District. During the mid 1970s Bill was successful in buying 50% of Wangaratta Motors P/L.
The current owner, Andrew Gormly (Bill’s Son) started full time employment at Wangaratta Motors in 1980. Andrew’s first job was as a junior spare parts interpreter which he held for 4 years. Andrew then became a retail sales cadet for 5 years and later moved into Sales Manager, General Manager and finally Dealer Principal. It was during this time that Andrew was able to purchase the remaining shares in Wangaratta Motors P/L that were held by a beneficiary of one of the original founding partners. Over the past few years Bill has retired from the business and Andrew has taken over the reins.
In the last 12 months Wangaratta Motors has grown to include Wangaratta Mitsubishi, Wangaratta Hyundai and Wangaratta Holden to become the Wangaratta Motor Group.
